  Giant Slalom

Exiting and accelerating towards the next gate on the GS.

Giant slalom, or GS, is considered the ultimate technical challenge. It tests skiers in medium radius turns and requires precision, an eye for the best line and feel for the skis. Skis are taken longer than for slalom, around 185-195cm for men, 170-180cm for women.

By driving hard out of each turn, competitors accelerate between gates and maximise speed. Gates are set wider than for slalom, and should be set on 'undulating and hilly terrain'. Once again there are two runs, each taking around 90 seconds, with the gates reset in between.

Competitors wear padding to protect themselves from the poles, and also use aerodynamic suits.
