Ski Canada this winter

Children's Section

General
In case anyone hadn't noticed, children these days are mini-adults. They want the same from their skiwear as adults do and for a while they were being left out of the picture. But the times they are a changin'…

Clothing manufacturers have really been working on their kids' ranges for this season so there's loads more available than ever before. And it's not just adult kit cut to size.

The snowboarding brands have come up trumps – names like Billabong, Bonfire, O'Neill and Quiksilver have really great ranges. There's a very versatile look about this year – for both skiers and boarders. And most jackets have been designed so they can be worn back home on the street, so parents are happy, too.

Colours aren't quite so muted for kids as they have been for adults. Even though brighter shades are now coming through on adult ranges, there's a much bigger spectrum on offer for children. There's a kind of 'catering-for-all-tastes' going on.

Graphites and darker colours are available, but for girls there are also pinks, creams and pastel blues – it can be 'pretty and girly' or 'gnarly boarder'. Boys are looking at similar colours to the adults, but with stronger blues, reds and citrus colours too.

Skiwear is as big as boardwear for children. Although jackets and pants are big sellers, all-in-one suits are still going strong, especially for the younger ones. Don't laugh at them either; they must be pretty warm…

Technical stuff
There's also a lot more technical stuff available this year. Both Schoffel and The North Face have brought out a good range of technical gear for kids this year (although North Face may be limited to the US at the moment).

The new top-of-the-range technical fabrics haven't yet been used for children's skiwear, simply because of costs. But it's well worth watching this space…
