We are pleased to introduce our ski touring programme for the 2008 - 2009 season.
We have a great selection of hut-to-hut ski tours, day tour trips and ski safaris catering for every level of ability and aspiration. If you want high altitude touring with magnificent views, big climbs and long descents or easier going day and multi day tours or even the comfort of a lift assisted ski safari then we will have something to suit you in our winter programme.
We split our tours into 3 categories based on the technical difficulty, length and steepness of ascents and skiing difficulty.
Beginner Ski Level Tour
Our beginner level ski tours will usually include 4 days of valley-based day tours with a 2-day hut tour at the end of the week. Occasionally the weeks will be hut-based but always with day tours where you return to the same hut at the end of the day. This allows you to ski with only a light pack containing safety gear, camera and other personal items.
Previous ski touring experience is not required and during the week you will learn the basic technical ski touring skills.
You need to be a competent intermediate off-piste skier - capable of skiing 10-12 continuous turns off-piste and able to ski down most slopes.
Intermediate
Ski Level Tour
A mixture of valley/hut based day tours and hut-to-hut tours.
The intermediate level hut-to-hut ski tours are aimed at newcomers to multi-day hut-to-hut ski touring. However participants should have completed some day tours and have basic ski touring experience - e.g. familiarity with using skins and skinning technique, conversions/kick-turns.
Likewise for the valley or hut based day tours, you should have basic ski touring experience. These tours differ from the beginner level tours in that ascents & descents will be more demanding - i.e. longer & steeper.
Advanced
Ski Level Tour
These are challenging multi-day hut-to-hut ski tours.
Suitable only for those who have previously completed at least 1 multi-day ski tour.
Advanced off-piste skiing ability in all conditions is essential.
From the Mont Blanc Massif in the Western Alps right across to the Julian Alps in Slovenia and as far down as the little known Abruzzo Alps in Italy, the European Alps are famous for their high-altitude trails, stunning panoramas and remote mountain huts. Ski touring is best enjoyed by strong off piste skiers with good fitness and stamina.
